In this article we are going to serve some useful and most important short tricks of percentage questions in Hindi as well as English language. With the help of these short tricks learners will learn how to solve percentage based problems in very short span. Because time and accuracy is very important parameters for all competitive exam.

Introduction: If a fraction having denominator is 100 then the numerator is known as rate percentage. and it is denoted by %. the meaning of x % is the 100 parts of given number x.

X% =  X/100

Example  20% = 20/100 = 1/5.

  1. how to change percentage into fraction :- To change percentage into fractions, it is divided by 100.                                                                                                                                                          such that :- 25% = 25/100 = 1/4.
  2. How to change fraction into percentage:- To change fraction into percentage, it is multiplied by 100.                                                                                                                                                          such that :- 2/50 = 2/50 x 100 = 4%.

 Percentage question Type-1 formula of percentage

  1. Y% of X = X x Y/100.
  2. To exprase X in the form of y percent = X/Y x 100.
  3. Increase%   = Increase / [actual value x 100].
  4. Decrease%  = Decrease / [actual value x 100].
  5. Error%        = Error x 100 / [original valve – Error]

Example 1 :- 25 is how much percent of 40.

Example 2 :-60 is how much percent of 80.

Example 3 :- The salary of Amar and Manoj is 4000rs and 6000rs per month. Manoj’s salary is how  much percent more then Amar’s salary?

Ex. 1.When the price of a product was decreased by 10%, the number sold increased by 30%. What was the effect on the total revenue? जब किसी वस्तु के मूल्य मे 10% कमी कर दी जाए तो उसकी बिक्री 30% बाद जाती है। तो टोटल प्रप्ता मूल्य ज्ञात करो।
Sol.Let the price of the product be Rs. 100 and let original sale be 100 pieces. Then, Total Revenue = Rs. (100 x 100) = Rs. 10000. New revenue Rs. (90 x 130) = Rs. 11700. Increase in revenue = 11700/10000x 100 ) % = 17%.
Ex. 2.If the numerator of a fraction be increased by’l5% and its denominator be diminished by 8%, the value of the fraction is 15/16. Find the original fraction. यदि किसी परिमेय स्नाख्या के अंस मे 15% बड़ा दे ठटा हर मे 8% की कमी कर दे तोउनका मान 15/16 हो जाता है। परिमय संख्या ज्ञात करो।
Sol.Let the original fraction be x/y =>115% of x / 92% of Y = 15/16 =>115x/92Y = 15/16 x/y = 3/4
Ex. 3.In the new budget, the price of kerosene oil raise by 25%. By how much percent must a person reduce his consumption so that his expenditure Q it does not increase? एक नए बजेट मे केरोसिन की कीमत 25% बाद जाती हैवह अपने खर्चे मे कितनी कमी कर दे की उसका खर्चा वही रहे ।
SolReduction in consumption =  = R/(100+R) x 100 % = 25/125 x100 % = 20%.
Ex. 4If A earns 33 1/3 % more than B, how much  percent does B earn less than A। यदि A , B से 33 1/3% ज्यादा कमाता है; तो B , A से कितना कम कमाता है।
Sol.Required percentage = [(100/3)/(100+100/3)]100% =(100/400) x 100% =25%
Ex. 5.If A’s salazy is 20% less than B’s salary, by how much percent is B’s salary more than A’s यदि की सैलरी से 20% कम हैतो B , a से कितना ज्यादा है।
SolRequired percentage = [(20/(100-20) x loo]% = 25%.
Ex. 6.How many kg of pure salt must be added to 30 kg of 2% solution of salt and water to increase it to a 10% solution ? एक नमक और पनि के 30kg का 2% मिश्रण मे कितना नमक और मिला दिया जाए की मिश्रण 10% बाद जाए
Sol.Amount of salt in 30 kg solution =(2/100 x 30) kg = 0.6 kg. Let x kg of pure salt be added. = (0.6+x)/(30+x) = 10/100 => 60+lOOx=300+10x =90x=240 x=8/3

Percentage question Type-2 formula of percentage

Percentage Short TRICK :-

  1. Age of A is greater the age of B by X% , then compare to B , A has % less-                                                                           = X  x 100 / [100+X]
  2. In any product if x%  increase in its price then decrease in percent of use of that product so that expanse doesn’t change-                                                                                                                                                            = X x 100 / [100+X]
  3. If increase in x% of length of a figure then its decrease in breadth percent, such its area doesn’t change-                                                                                                                                                                                      = X x 100 / [100+X]

Example :- If salary of A is 50% more then B , then how much percent B’s salary is less then A’s                           salary?

Percentage question Type-3 percentage formula

  1. If age of A is less then B by x% , then increase percent in B’s age by A –                                                                               = X x 100 / [100-X]
  2.  In any product if x%  decrease  in its price then increase  in percent of use of that product so that expanse doesn’t change-                                                                                                                                                   = X x 100 / [100-X]
  3. If decrease in base of a triangle by x% then increase in height percent, such that its area doesn’t change-                                                                                                                                                                                     = X x 100 / [100-X]

Example:- If salary of A is 40% less then B then  how much percent B’s salary is more then A’s                              salary?

Ex. 1A man bought a horse and a carriage for Rs. 3000. He sold the horse at a gain of 20% and the carriage at a loss of 10%, thereby gaining 2% on the whole. Find the cost of the horse.  Q : एक आदमी ने एक घोडा व एक गाड़ी 3000 रुपे मे खरीदा | उसने घोडा 20% लाभ पर तथा गाड़ी को 10% हानी पर बेचा ; जिससे उसे 2% का लाभ मिला | घोड़े की कीमत ज्ञात करो |
SolLet the C.P. of the horse be Rs. x. Then, C.P. of the carriage = Rs. (3000 — x).  20% of x — 10% of (3000 — x) = 2% of 3000 x/5 – (3000-x)/10 = 60 =2x—3000+x = 600  = 3x= 3600  x= 1200. Hence, C.P. of the horse = Rs. 1200
Ex. 2Find the single discount equivalent to a series discount of 20%, 10% and 5%. :- क्रमश 20% , 10% वां 5% के क्रमाशा डिस्काउंट ज्ञात करो | 
Sol.Let marked price be Rs. 100. Then, Net S.P. = 95% of 90% of 80% of Rs. 100 Rs(95/100 x90/100 x 80/100) x 100 = Rs. 68.40. … Required discount = (100 — 68.40)% = 31.6%
Ex. 3.After getting two successive discounts, a shirt with a list price of Rs. 150 available at Rs. 105. If the second discount is 12.5%, find the first discount. 2 एक के बाद एक डिस्काउंट के बाद 150/- का शर्ट 105 रुपेमे मिला ; यदि दूसरा डिस्काउंट 12.5% हो तो पहला डिस्काउंट ज्ञात करो। 
Sol.Let the first discount be x%. Then, 87.5% of (100 — x)% of 150 = 105 87.5/100 x (100-x)/100 x 150 = 105 100-x = (105x100x100) / 150×87.5) =80 x = (100-80) = 20 First discount  = 20%
Ex. 4.An uneducated retailer marks all his goods at 50% above the cost price and thinking that he will still make 25% profit, offers a discount of 25% on the marked price. What is his actual profit on the sales?  :- एक अंपाड़ आदमी ने उसके सभी समान पर उसकी खरीदी मूल्य से 50% ज्यादा का मार्क लगा दिया | उसने 25% प्रॉफ़िट कमाने के लिए उन वस्तुओ को 25% पर बेचना चाहा; उसका एक्चुअल प्रॉफ़िट निकालो
Sol.Let C.P. = Rs. 100. Then, marked price = Rs. 150. S.P. = 75% of Rs. 150 = Rs. 112.50. … Gain% = 12.50%.
Ex. 5.A retailer buys 40 pens at the marked price of 36 pens from a wholesaler If he sells these pens giving a discount of 1%, what is the profit percent?  एक आदमी ने 36 रुपेए प्रिंट के 40 पेन खरीदे ; यदि वो उन पेनो पर 1 % डिस्कोउंट दे तो उसका लाभ प्रतिशत ज्ञात करो
SolLet the marked price of each pen be Re. 1. Then, C.P. of 40 pens = Rs. 36. S.P. of 40 pens = 99% of Rs. 40 = Rs. 39.60. Profit%= (3.60/36 xlOO) % = 10%
Ex. 6At what percentage above the C.P must an artide be marked so as to gain 33% after allowing a customer a discount of 5%?  किसी वस्तु के खरीदी पर कितना प्रतिशत मार्क करे की उसका लाभ 33% हो तथा वह कस्टमर को 5% का डिस्काउंट भी दे |
Sol. Let C.P. = Rs. 100. Then, S.P. =‘Rs. 133. Let marked price be Rs. x Then, 95% ofx= 133  95x/100=133  x = 133x 100/95J = 140 Marked price = 40% above C.P.

Percentage question Type-4 percentage formula

  1. If X% and Y% both are increase percent, then total increase percent-                                                                                   = [ X + Y + (XY/100)] %
  2. If X% and Y% both are decrease percent, then total decrease percent-                                                                                  = [- X – Y – (XY/100)] %
  3. If X% and Y% are sequentially  increase percent and decrease percent, then increase or decrease percent-                                                                                                                                                                      = [ X – Y – (XY/100)] % 
  4. If X% and Y% are sequentially  decrease percent and increase percent, then increase or decrease percent-                                                                                                                                                                      = [ -X + Y – (XY/100)] % 

Example:- A shopkeeper firstly increase price of a product by 25% and then again he increased the                      price by 20% , then how much percent did the price increased?

Percentage question Type-5 calculation formula for percentage,

Percentage Short TRICK :-

                 If firstly price of a product is decreased by X% and then the lowered increased by X% , then there is also decrease in its price and it will be-                                                                                                                                     = [ X^2 / 100 ]%

Example:- If price of a T.V. is increased by 40% , then increased price is decreased by 40% , then                        how much percent increase or decrease in its price?

Percentage question Type-6 calculation formula for percentage,

Percentage Short TRICK :-

               Price of a product is X units , firstly its price decreased by r1% , secondly by r2% and then by r3% . If decreased price is Y unit then-
                                       Y = X x [1 – (r1/100)] x [1 – (r2/100)] x [1 – (r3/100)]

Example:- A company of pan decided that from February , each month they will decrease the                              production by 10% , If in January 3000 pans prepared , then how pans will be prepared in                    month March?

Percentage Short TRICK :-

             
The population of a town is X , If population is increased in first year by r1% , in second year by r2% and in third year by r3% , If population after increase is Y , then-

                                   Y = X x [1 + (r1/100)] x [1 + (r2/100)] x [1 + (r3/100)]

Example:- The population of a village is increased by 15% , If in the end of year 1996 population is                     4000 , then what is population in the end of year 1998?

Percentage Short Tricks question Type-8

Percentage Short TRICK :- 
If price of any product is increased from X rs/gm to Y rs/gm , then decrease in its consumption such that its expanse doesn’t increase –
                                                 = {(Y -X)/ Y} x 100


Example:- Price of sugar is increased from 16 rs/kg  to 18 rs/kg , then a house wife will decreases consumption how much percentage of sugar such that the expanses will remain same

Percentage Short TRICK :-

               If price of a product decreased from X rs/gm to Y rs/gm , so increase in consumption such that expanse will remain same-
                                             = {(X -Y)/ Y} x 100

Example:- Price of orange decreased from 20 rs/kg to 15 rs/kg , so that how much a person will                             increase the consumption such that expanse remain same?

Percentage question Type-10

Percentage Short TRICK :-

                  Due to increase in price of a product by X% , so that a person parches that product in Y rs and he bye of A gm less , then increase in per gm rs –
                                   = (X x Y) / (100 x A) rs
and then per gm earlier  price –
                                   = (X x Y) / {(100+X) x A}rs


Example:- Due to increase in 10% of price of orange , therefore a customer bye 5 kg less in 270 rs ,                      what is per kg increase in price of the oranges?

Percentage question Type-11


Percentage Short TRICK :-

                Due to decrease in price of a product by X% , so that a person parches that product in Y rs and he bye of A gm more , then decrease in per gm rs –
                                   = XY / (100 x A) rs
and then per gm earlier  price –

                                   = XY / {(100-X) x A}rs

Percentage Short TRICK :-

                    Due to increase in price of a product by X% , A person decreased its consumption such that its expanse is increased by Y% , if before increase consumption is A gm , then now its consumption –
                         = {A x (100+Y)} / (100+X)

 Example:- Due to increase in 30% of price of sugar, family decreased its consumption such that its expanse is increased only by 10% , If consumption of sugar before increase in price is 26 kg , then now how much consumption ?

Percentage Short TRICK :-

                 Due to decrease in price of a product by X% , A person increased its consumption such that its expanse is decreased  by Y% , if before increase consumption is A gm , then now its consumption –                                                                                                                                                                      = {A x (100-Y)} / (100-X)

Example:- Due to decrease in 25% of price of tea, a shopkeeper increased its consumption such that its expanse is decreased only by 15% , If consumption of tea before increase in price is 30 kg , then now how much consumption ?

Example:- To pass a exam 33% needed , a student got 220 marks and he passed by 11 marks , then total marks is how much?

Example:- A student got 23%  marks and he failed by 36% . In same exam another student got 35% marks and he got 48 marks more then the minimum marks of passing , then total marks is how much?
